Some people have asked how to get the rear hubs off. So I thought I’d share my method.

I’ve got 2 M10 x 80 set bolts that I use to push the hub off the brake back plate. This is where they get stuck and it’s due to the undercut that exists on the hub which acts as a rust trap.

Put 2 bolts through 2 opposing wheel bolt holes in the hub and put a washer then a nut in the back side of the wheel flange. I put a small piece of 3mm thick steel plate to act as a load spreader under the end of the bolt. This also stops the bolt damaging the brake back plate.

Hold the bolt still with a spanner and turn the nut to push the hub off the brake back plate. Half a turn at a time on each side to keep the hub square. You will have to use a LOT of force on the nut to shear the rust that is trapping the hub in the undercut. It’ll suddenly break its grip with a bang. Keep going evenly on each bolt until the hub is free.

I smear a thin layer of marine white grease onto the new hub making sure the undercut is fully covered to stop this problem in future.
