ParticipantThe regulations don’t seem to cover this aspect – apart from the usual “if it doesn’t say you can do it then you can’t…” But is it permissible to replace the standard steering wheel with something a little less plasticy and a bit more grippy?
Also the TSL transponder – is this the X2 Racing Transponder?
Also, sorry, mention in the regulations about a club fuel filler cap available from the shop, but can’t see this – yet…?
Sorry, not trying to be a pain, just reading the regulations carefully (not something I have ever done before…) and spotted these upon which others may also benefit from clarification. Many thanks.

KeymasterHi Peter,
You can change the steering wheel. It’s covered in 16.2 which says “The standard steering wheel may be used. An MSA approved alternative steering wheel and quick release boss is permitted.”
Transponder is the MyLaps X2 transponder. If you can find one, the old red TSL transponders can be bought outright – the MyLaps X2 is effectively rented and quite expensive.
The fuel cap is a standard unleaded non lockable one. You can get a DC152 from https://www.petrolcaps.co.uk/shop/product-details.php for about £13.

ParticipantMany thanks for the information Caryl, apologies that I missed 16.2… Have ordered the fuel cap.
These transponders do seem rather expensive. I also have an MGB that I race that is fitted with an AMB TRANX 260 unit – which seems to work at virtually every track I have used in the last 10 years or so. It is red – so am hoping that this is the “old red” ones to which you refer? If so it would seem sensible to wire that up that I can move it from car to car which I am doing with the extinguisher, seat, belts etc – if that is OK it would be just another thing to unbolt and swap over…?24/04/2017 at 8:54 pm #1259chris dear
ParticipantI have un bolted the belts, fire extinguisher and transponder from my old mg midget to the c1 and the original transponder will be fine. If you have one (I also have a rechargeable spare one) they are now worth silly money as you dont have to pay the rental charge… Yet!

ParticipantDoes anyone have a spare wheel boss for the C1’s – we have been let down by the supplier and am now struggling to get one in time for round 1.
For our driving position using the std wheel will not be very comfortable.Cheers
Michael

ParticipantHi Michael,
Where did you order your steering wheel boss from that fits the C1 column, any chance you could share the details ?
Thanks
Declan

ParticipantOrdered our omp boss and wheel from deamon tweaks and I can confirm it made the car 3 seconds a lap faster. Light weight metal gear knob is expected to have the same effect.

ParticipantCan someone confirm if we are we allowed to change gearknobs?
I’ve not binned off the awful factory thing yet as I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to remain standard.

ModeratorDo the rules say the gear knob can be changed?
if they don’t you can’t, it would be a shame to be disqualified for an illegal gear knob!!

ParticipantIts interior trim Phillip.

ModeratorI think you’ll find that 10.2.4 allows the removal of interior trim it does not permit its replacement with alternative items.

ParticipantThis is precisely why I wanted it clarified.

ParticipantDam it, there goes my 3 seconds a lap advantage.
